چکیده
A response is given to criticisms in a recent paper of the validity of the amphipod suborder Senticaudata. The tacitly assumed status of truth implied in some molecular higher phylogenies is called in to question.

A phylogeny and classification of the Senticaudata subord. nov. Crustacea: Amphipoda).
The Amphipoda includes a large clade defined by the presence of a previously unrecognised synapomorphy, apical robust setae on the rami of uropods 1-2. We term this clade the Senticaudata subord. nov. (Latin: sentis = thorn). It includes almost all freshwater species as well as a number of marine benthic taxa, formerly part of the 'Gammaridea'. The phylog-eny of the senticaudates was determined...
متن کاملData for comparative proteomics of ovaries from five non-model, crustacean amphipods☆
Ovaries were taken from five sexually mature amphipods: Gammarus fossarum, Gammarus pulex, Gammarus roeseli, Hyallela azteca and Parhyale hawaiensis. The soluble proteome extracted from individual pair of ovaries from five biological replicates was trypsin digested and the resulting peptides were analyzed by high resolution tandem mass spectrometry. The spectra were assigned with four protein s...

New record and new species of the families Melitidae Bousfield, 1973 and Maeridae Krapp-Schickel, 2008 are described from the Iranian shorelines of the Persian Gulf. Melita persia sp. nov. is differentiated from other members of M. zeylanica Stebbing, 1904 group by: the presence of two setae on inner ramus of third uropod, the setal arrangement on the telson, and a recurved proximal lobe of six...
متن کاملGenetic and Morphological Divergences in the Cosmopolitan Deep-Sea Amphipod Eurythenes gryllus Reveal a Diverse Abyss and a Bipolar Species
Eurythenes gryllus is one of the most widespread amphipod species, occurring in every ocean with a depth range covering the bathyal, abyssal and hadal zones. Previous studies, however, indicated the existence of several genetically and morphologically divergent lineages, questioning the assumption of its cosmopolitan and eurybathic distribution. For the first time, its genetic diversity was exp...
